Fun Indoor Day When it's Just TOO Hot Out!
Summer has arrived and boy is it a hot one! There's the perfect, sunny pool days, and then there's the foot stinging, so hot you better have a pair of shoes on days! This fun DIY is for the latter - when you just want to curl up in the house and crank up the A/C. It's for those afternoons when the kids are running around the house reckless and you all just need a break. There's 3 main parts to the perfect movie night (or day):
1. Fort Time
The best part about a fort is there is no wrong way to make one! They are all unique and soo fun! So grab all the pillows, blankets, and random objects to hold your crazy fort together. Whether it's string, some clothes pins, and a 6-foot lamp or a whole table's worth of chairs, everything is acceptable in your fort building! Or, if building a fort is just too much work on your movie night, grab the blankets and pillows and snuggle up on the couch! Either way, your movie night (or day) is bound to be fun-filled! If anyone is musically inclined, cozy up for a few campfire songs!
2. Bring on the S'mores
S'mores are great, but have you had mouthwatering s'more dip!? It's like a party in your tummy! It calls for mostly the same ingredients as regular s'mores, but it's easy to make and safer for the kids too.
What you'll need:
- 1 non-stick mini cake pan (we used 6 inch)
- 1 bag of large marshmallows (the fluffier the better!)
- 1 bag of chocolate chips
- Graham crackers for dipping
Pre-heat the oven to 325 degrees.
Line the bottom of the cake pan with chocolate chips. We poured it all in. Use as much as you like!
Cover the chocolate chips with marshmallows. We used large marshmallows and packed them in tightly. You can also use mini marshmallows if you don't have the larger ones at home. Cooking time might differ. Just watch it!
Place the pan in the oven and bake for 10-15 minutes. Each oven varies in cook time, so be sure to keep an eye out! You'll know it's done when it looks perfectly golden (like ours).
Eat, eat, and eat some more! Grab your graham crackers and dip them in your incredible concoction! You can also use a spoon to spread the dip onto your cracker (works out even better) or you can dish it onto plates for each kid!
AND ENJOY!! SIMPLY DIVINE!!!
3. Which Movie?
And lastly, and quite possibly the hardest part, is deciding on a movie. Depending on the age of your kids, a quick Google can tell you the rating. To be safe, "G" is always a good bet, especially with little kids. And hopefully, after all of the excitement and sugar wears off, it will be an easy transition to bed time! And just maybe, they can even sleep in that cool fort you spent all that time helping them with! Who says summer has to only be for outdoors?
